My son, Nathan suffered a traumatic brain injury in February 2020, after falling from a substantial height. After his accident, Nathan started to display a number of symptoms associated with his brain injury. Reduced concentration, fatigue, changes in his memory and recall ability, difficulties regulating his emotions and behaviour. Along with sensory sensitivities. We were referred to CPPS, after Nathan's initial needs assesment identified the need for Nathan to have help via an Occupational Therapist.
Over the passed two years, we have had constant help and assistance from Jessica, at CPPS. Jessica has been absolutely pivotal in Nathan's recovery, so far.
Before Jessica's involvement, Nathan displayed a range of behaviours which were concerning, and, as his parents, we didn't know what to do or how to help him. Nathan would get easily frustrated knowing how differently his brain now works and we found this extremely difficult to manage and assist with. Jessica has provided us with a mountain of knowledge - through different reading materials and online learning. But also assisting Nathan to help understand himself. She has worked on a number of areas with Nathan, from - fatigue management, to helping Nathan understand his behaviour and feelings and how to help self regulate himself. She also continues to work closely with Nathan's school, helping them understand the effects of his brain Injury and what they can do to assist Nathan on a daily basis, whilst in school.
Jessica is always there, at a drop of the hat to assist us, and Nathan with any queries or new concerns we may have. If we were to ask Nathan what Jessica has helped him with the most, his answer would be -
"My blue sit and move seat and my colour zones. Both help me to feel better about myself, and help me to focus for longer."
As Nathan grows, we will undoubtedly start experiencing new issues along the way. It is certainly comforting to know we have Jessica to continue to help guide and support us, providing extensive knowledge in a multitude of areas. I will be forever grateful to Jessica and CPPS for their excellent work with Nathan. Without them, Nathan wouldn't have made the progress he has made already, and we would have one very unhappy little boy.
